As a qualifying registered psychotherapist, I am passionate about creating a compassionate, inclusive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel acknowledged, heard, and supported. I am currently completing my practicum as part of a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University and am a student member of the Canadian Counselling Psychotherapy Association. I adopt a client-centred approach grounded in empathy, curiosity, and respect for each individual’s unique experiences.

With a 19 year background in education, I have established a robust foundation in active listening, collaboration, and strength-based approaches. I am particularly interested in supporting individuals who are navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, stress management, self-esteem, and addiction. My work is guided by evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and I continue to develop through supervision and ongoing training.

I believe that healing and growth can occur in a trusting, mutually respectful relationship, and I strive to co-create a therapeutic space where clients can explore challenges, build resilience, achieve personal growth, become empowered, and reconnect with their sense of purpose and inner strength.

Driven by a deep commitment to mental health, I actively engage in ongoing professional development and reflection to ensure that I deliver the highest standard of care. I view healing as a collaborative journey and partner with clients to support meaningful, lasting change.

Shelley is a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology candidate and an experienced frontline mental health professional with over a decade of boots-on-the-ground experience in crisis intervention, youth justice, trauma recovery, and community-based mental health. Her work has taken her into shelters, courtrooms, classrooms, correctional institutions, and family homes—always with the intention of holding space for healing in real time, in real life.

Her passion lies in supporting youth and families who exist at the intersections of trauma, marginalization, and resilience. Shelley has worked extensively with individuals impacted by substance use, systemic violence, grief, depression, anxiety, and intergenerational trauma. She has particular expertise supporting justice-involved youth, survivors of human trafficking, and families navigating complex care systems. Shelley’s therapeutic practice is grounded in a deep respect for her clients’ lived experience and rooted in anti-oppressive, trauma-informed values. She draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, and person-centered models—integrating these flexibly depending on the needs and readiness of each person she works with.

What sets Shelley apart is her ability to bring warmth and depth into even the most difficult conversations. She believes that emotional expression is a strength, and much of her work focuses on helping clients safely access, explore, and make meaning of their emotions. She often reminds clients: “You have value because you exist”—a grounding philosophy that shapes the way she builds relationships and co-creates care plans.

Shelley also volunteers her time providing peer support to individuals and families coping with prenatal and child loss. Her experience in grief support, particularly related to perinatal bereavement, adds depth and compassion to her approach when working with clients facing life-altering loss.

As an Indo-Caribbean immigrant woman, adoptee, and mother. These personal layers give her a sharp lens for the ways culture, identity, and power show up in the therapy room. Clients describe Shelley as genuine, grounded, and direct. She is committed to walking alongside clients as they reclaim their voice, rewrite their narratives, and root themselves in the life they want to lead.

“Therapy doesn’t ask you to have all the answers. It asks you to be curious, brave, and willing to show up as you are. From there, we build.”

Hello!

My name is Alisha, and I’m so glad you’re here.

I started my journey in this profession as a teenager and a service user. I understand how challenging it is to grow up with struggles such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, and self-harm. As an Indigenous woman, I also encountered difficulties like addiction, unhealthy family dynamics, and spiritual insecurity.

I returned to school and completed my Bachelor’s degree in Community Mental Health at Seneca Polytechnic, before applying for my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I have learned a great deal about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy.

I chose to enter this field because I needed someone to support and guide me through my mental health journey. As a teenager, I lacked coping techniques, and I hope to someday make a positive impact by helping someone learn them. I want to assist you in being prepared for success when you face a distressing situation.

I have been in this field for seven years now, and I have worked in various jobs that have given me experience in the areas mentioned above.

If you are interested in meeting with me, please reach out, I look forward to speaking with you soon.

It can offer a tool set for increased success and enjoyment in the sport for optimal performance.
